For each
signature being notarized, acceptable identification must be presented.
The following methods of identification are considered satisfactory
evidence of identification for the State of California.
- A
California driver's license or identification card issued by the
California Department of Motor Vehicles. Temporary IDs are not
acceptable.
- A
U. S. passport issued by the Department of State of the United States.
- A
foreign passport stamped by Homeland Security.
- A
driver's license or identification card issued by any other U. S. state
provided it has a photograph, identifying number, physical description,
and signature.
- A
Mexican or Canadian driver's license provided it has
a photograph, identifying number, physical description, and signature.
- A
military identification card provided it has
a photograph, identifying number, physical description, and signature.
- An
inmate identification card issued by the Department of Corrections,
if
the inmate is in custody.
- Credible
witness(es) with satisfatory evidence of identification.
Some documents
being notarized must be accompanied by a copy of the signer's
identification. Check with whomever prepared your document to determine
if a copy of your identification is required.
